Article 19 is a human rights organization established in 1987 that designs and promotes laws and policies that protect free expression, holding abusers and governments to account, and advocate for legal reforms. They assist the media with a range of training and capacity-building resources on freedom of expression; defend victims and demand transparency and accountability of governments. Article 19 is also a founding member of IFEX.

IFEX, the International Freedom of Expression Exchange, is a network of organizations that defend and promote free expression. Index on Censorship is an internationally registered charity that has defined and defended the freedom of expression for over 40 years. Through campaigns and published reports, the Index on Censorship has challenged threats to freedom of expression and given a voice to those who have been prevented from speaking out. Practical support is given to governments, the media and arts organizations.

Amnesty International is a global movement to campaign against grave abuses to human rights. As an unbiased organization, their aim is for every person to enjoy all the rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights standards. To do this, the organization stands together and writes letters, does online and offline campaigning, demonstrations, vigils and directs lobbying of those with power and influence. Part of its mission is to undertake research and action focused on preventing and ending grave abuses of freedom of expression. Amnesty International supports and protects those who have had these rights revoked and raises awareness to these violations.

Human Rights Watch is a leading NGO designed to defend and protect human rights. Beginning in 1978 with the creation of Helsinki Watch, they have a long history shining the international spotlight on human rights violations and raising awareness to various injustices occurring throughout the world. Each year Human Rights Watch publishes a world report that has a specific section related to freedom of expression in each country it analyzes. It is also a founding member of the International Freedom of Expression Exchange.

Reporters Without Borders advocates for the freedom of expression and information. They work to continuously monitor attacks on freedom of information worldwide, denounce any such attacks in the media, act in cooperation with governments to fight censorship and laws aimed at restricting freedom of information, morally and financially assist persecuted journalists, as well as their families and to offer material assistance to war correspondents in order to enhance their safety.

The International Federation of Journalists is the world’s largest organization of journalists. It promotes international action to defend press freedom and social justice. IFJ is dedicated to working for solidarity, social justice, labor rights, globalization, democracy, human rights, and fighting poverty and corruption.
