Iraq: ISIS Executes Lawyer & Rights Defender “Samira Saleh Al-Naimi” in one of Mosul’s Squares

Wednesday 24 September 2014, by The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information (ANHRI)

The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information (ANHRI) denounces the heinous crime committed by ISIS, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, on August 22, 2014. The ISIS killed the Iraqi lawyer and human rights advocate “Samira Saleh Al-Naimi”, as an armed group linked to ISIS opened fire on her in a plaza in Mosul.

Lawyer Samira Saleh Al-Naimi was abducted from her house last week, after she had described the damages inflicted to the city of Mosul’s landmarks as barbaric.

Noticeably, Samira Saleh Al-Naimi is one of the most prominent activists in Iraq, particularly in the field of defending the detainees and supporting the deprived families in Mosul.

“What ISIS group is daily committing in Iraq and Syria deemed a crime against humanity as well as what all the heavenly religions call for, in addition to the international treaties and conventions on human rights in cases of wars. On top of that, ISIS targets any dissidents, opinion holders or human rights defenders in Iraq by continual torture and murder,” ANHRI says.

ANHRI calls on the Iraqi authorities to urgently investigate this incident and to bring all the perpetrators of assassinating the human rights defenders, Samira Saleh Al-Naimi, to trial. Moreover, the authorities should put an end to the crimes against humanity that are being committed by ISIS group.
